Although I seem to be out and about frequently, I often find myself reading through the paper or other blogs and saying ” I’ve always wanted to go there or do that!” Then it’s filed away in the deep caverns of my very “of the moment” mind; only to be brought back to the forefront when I read about it through someone else’s experience. Well that just won’t do anymore!
So here is my top 10 list of “I’d Like to See or Try That” in 2012
1. Attend a Rose City Rollers Match
2. Try Paddle Boarding
3. Participate in Pints-to- Pasta
4. Take an Aerial Arts Class
5. Rent a dune buggy in Florence and play all day out on the dunes
6. Watch, not participate, the naked bike ride
7. Mountain Bike down Ski Bowl
8. Experience Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel
9. Attend the Red Dress Party 2012
10. Distillery Row Pedicab Tour
Have a favorite Portland event, place or activity you feel is worth the experience, I’d love to hear about it! Post it in the comments and maybe I’ll see you there.
If you’re not headed to Smokehouse 21 already – you will be once you catch a whiff of the savory smells that begin to permeate the air as you walk down 21st right around Flanders and well past Glisan. The restaurant takes over the small space that was once Tanuki on 21st. The intimate space seats 22 and is painted a mossy green. The decor can be classified as: tasteful BBQ. A mounted Boar’s head adds character to the walls, an ironing board serves as a wait station, the warm wood tables and chairs make the dining room feel comfortable and exactly the type of space where you can get your fingers sticky with sweet tasty BBQ sauce. The voices of Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and the likes, add to the authentic vibe you feel when you take two steps down into this new cozy and comforting dining destination. Wine carries the same emotions I have towards shoes. Less is never more. Each one distinctive to your mood at the moment and each one evokes fond memories of monumental or playfully petty snapshots from your past.
So when I see a wine shop, just as a new shoe display, I am drawn in to take a peek. That’s exactly what happened the other evening as I was walking with a friend down 23rd. We both had commented about the opening of the new wine shop and decided to seize the moment, put our other plans aside, and relax with a glass of vino. Continue reading
Mellow Mushroom, primarily an east coast franchise, has recently planted roots on the west coast in The Pearl – 1411 NW Flanders St.
Mellow Mushroom proclaims they are more than a pizza place. Their goal is ”to provide an experience that is filled with colorful art, eclectic music and food that comforts your soul.” Continue reading
Last night my friend, lets call her YLLOM – I promised to change her name, didn’t promise to change it to a different name – invited me over to unwind with a glass of wine and catch up. Before we headed over I texted to see if they had finished with dinner so we wouldn’t be intruding.
Her reply was “The kids have had their yearly McRib this evening so we are good to go.”
I, of course, replied - LOL
After we arrived, and my very generous glass of wine was poured, she began to enlighten me with this phenomenon known as the McRib Sandwich! Continue reading
A simple definition of Prasad would be “an offering from the individual self to God”
It is said that by offering Prasad selflessly to God (or a saint or teacher who has brought you closer to God) our individual self expands and grows when the blessing is returned.
For those of you who find yourself hungry, while in close proximity of The Pearl, can enjoy a peaceful and gratifying breakfast, lunch or dinner at Prasad. Continue reading
Two of the many reasons I love Portland; your taste buds are elevated by the exquisite cocktails that are churned out by some of the best bartenders one will encounter and your circle of friends becomes elevated by the amazingly interesting people who sit next to you at the bar.
The setting was Clyde Common, a European styled tavern that is adjoining the retro cool, in a laid back betnik sort of way, ACE Hotel on SW Stark. I was enjoying my melody of olives, a ramekin of salted almonds and a delightful cocktail made by the always capable and always cordial bartenders. Continue reading
